Job Overview:
There is a high demand for English language learning in Vietnam due to the country's economic growth, increasing internationalization, and government vision to improve English language proficiency. Certifications like IELTS are also becoming essential for accessing study opportunities, qualifications, and employment in Vietnam. The British Council currently has three locations in Ho Chi Minh City and four in Hanoi, with plans to open four more centers in 2024 to meet market demand. This expansion creates employment opportunities in ELT in a dynamic and diverse country.

The teaching activity is managed nationally, with Cluster Leads, Academic Managers, and support teams. Teaching focuses on young learners (5 to 17 years old), comprising over 70% of the activity. The British Council currently teaches around 4,500 young learners and 1,700 adults simultaneously.
Responsibilities:
To plan, prepare and deliver effective English language teaching that meets the needs of different learner groups
To monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage learners’ performance throughout the course, and to actively promote learner autonomy
To contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services, in order to best meet learners’ needs
To complete teaching-related administrative tasks to specified standards
To actively engage in professional development and performance management systems and procedures to assure high standards in teaching and learning
To contribute positively to the British Council’s reputation and position as a benchmark standard in best practice in the sector
To support marketing and promotional activities and to assist the teaching team in delivering excellent customer service
To ensure safeguarding standards are rigorously applied and upheld in line with applicable policy in the following areas:

Qualifications
Essentials
Undergraduate degree (BA or higher) or equivalent
Cambridge CELTA, Trinity CertTESOL, or equivalent
CELT-YL extension or TYLEC or commitment to complete these courses while in post.
For Vietnamese nationals only: BA or higher in ESL or related field.
Desirables
PGCE in Primary or Secondary or equivalent
Recognised diploma in EFL i.e. Cambridge DELTA or Trinity DipTESOL
CELT-YL extension or TYLEC
Work Experience
Essential
At least 1-year post-qualification experience (600 hours) covering at least two of the following age-groups
Young learners aged 6 to 10
Young learners aged 11 to 13
Young learners aged 14 to 17
Desirables
Experience of IELTS or Cambridge Exams Preparation
Experience in teaching Adults (500+ hours)
At least 600 hours’ experience in teaching two or more young learners in age groups
Language Requirements:
Full proficiency in English across all 4 skills, equivalent to CEFR C2 or IELTS Band 8 in each of 4 sections of the academic module
IELTS test report is a mandatory requirement except following nationalities: British, American, Irish, Canadian, New Zealander, Australian (plus South African and Filipino if working in Hochiminh)
Salary & Benefits:
Salary: VND 34,922,500 to VND 38,357,500 gross per month, on the Part-Time Teacher salary scale. The salary quoted is the minimum base salary for 50 hours of teaching per month. Hours taught above this are paid additionally at the applicable hourly rate.
Annual Leave: The employee is entitled to 12 working days per year in addition to the Vietnamese public holidays (currently 11 days per year).
Reimbursable travel expenses if you are recruited from outside Vietnam: For new part-time teaching employees from outside Vietnam, all travel expenses to Vietnam, including airfare, baggage, and temporary accommodation, will be reimbursed up to a limit of USD1,500 with receipts.

Passport requirements - Applicants must be potentially eligible to work in Vietnam and must hold a passport that has at least two blank pages and at least 6 months remaining validity.
Vaccination Status - Need proof of double-vaccination to be eligible for Vietnamese work permit
Work schedule (as per operational needs): Work schedules for teachers may include evening and weekend shifts in one or more centers within their city of residence. However, teachers are generally scheduled at one location per day. Although schedules may change periodically, advance notice is given.
